First ScotRail operates 95% of passenger rail services in Scotland, providing over 2000 services a day. They also operate all but 4 of Scotland's 339 passenger stations and boast year on year passenger growth of 9%. Services operate across a number of key city to city routes as well as within Strathclyde, the largest suburban transport area outside London.

Merseyrail is an urban network of vital importance to the transport infrastructure of Liverpool and is one of the most intensively used networks in the UK. The network covers 75 route miles, with outer termini at Southport, Ormskirk, Kirkby, Hunts Cross on the Northern Line, and New Brighton, West Kirby, Chester and Ellesmere Port. It also includes a Liverpool city centre underground network.
